50 - Tracking Chemistry of Minor Elements - DIS Foundry Member Survey

Abstract:

In the fall of 2012, a foundry member asked if we could survey members to see if people had developed a formula for additions of Cu, Sn, or other elements to offset the softening effect of known amounts of boron contamination.

It was decided that other questions could be asked such as formulas used for pearlite stabilizers to produce higher strength grades, formulas that might have been developed to avoid carbides, etc. as well as which elements were being analyzed and equipment. We also asked if members felt that the Process Committee within the Ductile Iron Research Committee could do anything else to support them.
