Laboratory Specialist — Cast Iron & Metallurgical Analysis

Elkem is establishing a new metallurgical laboratory for cast iron analysis and defect investigation — and we’re looking for a hands‑on, independent Laboratory Specialist to build and run it from the ground up. This role combines technical testing, lab setup, customer support, and procedure development.
What You’ll Do
- Set up and organize a new metallurgical laboratory (equipment installation, procedures, quality systems).
- Perform chemical, metallurgical, and defect analysis on foundry materials (SiC, FeSi, alloys, slag, returns).
- Maintain and calibrate lab equipment; ensure accuracy and repeatability of test methods.
- Receive, track, and report customer samples with clear, concise technical documentation.
- Support customer investigations, training, and sample collection across North America.
- Represent Elkem at technical meetings (AFS, DIS) and maintain strong industry knowledge.
What You Bring
- Degree in Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of lab, metallurgical, materials testing, or foundry experience.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage a lab environment.
- Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
- Experience with calibration programs and lab equipment maintenance.
- Proficiency with MS Office; Salesforce or LIMS experience is a plus.
- Fluent English; Spanish is an advantage.
