Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Provide and/or supervise specialized manufacturing counsel and advise to Engineering in conjunction with contemplated new or changed designs that can be produced most advantageously and with optimum tooling and product cost.
  • Initiate, coordinate, supervise and/or participate in the development and maintenance of tooling and product cost information to assure the timely and accurate availability of data required for decision-making.
  • Assure the conformance to target costs by monitoring designs and follow-up and collaborating with various disciplines to identify and resolve problem areas.
  • Develop and maintain liaison with manufacturing plants and suppliers to assure most economical tooling, processing and operations that will contribute to profitable production. Maintain knowledge of current production and suppliers capabilities and new developments. Assist in efficient production start-up and contribute to solution of production problems.
  • Supervise and give guidance in special cost reduction programs to assure the optimum contribution to project consistent with product performance, reliability and other parameters.
  • Ensure the optimum utilization of Company and/or hired manpower and contribute to the efficient use of Company funds by proper direction of work project. Train and direct or give guidance to subordinate employees as required. Plan, organize and direct workflow through the section.
  • Make timely decisions and accurate volume forecasts, contributing sufficient lead-time to ensure optimum design and development of manufacturing operations.
  • Provided adequate follow-up and control to relate production experience to department estimates and recommendations on tooling, operations, suppliers, etc.
  • Ensure product programs are executed on-time, on budget (piece cost, capital investment and engineering expenditures) and meeting all functional requirements (customer and regulatory) using the minimum engineering resources.
  • Development of the technical excellence of the product engineering organization as well as contributing to the harmonious interactions between product engineering and other functional activities.
  • Provide support for Process Engineering, including quality improvements.
  • Develop a partnership relationship with represented workforce.
  • Compliance to Company EMS Policy.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Responsible to supervise, coordinate and provide product engineering services. This includes; assisting in the development of new designs which are most economical and consistent with satisfactory product performance and reliability, develop and maintain accurate tooling and product cost data for decision-making, assure achievement of target cost and profit objectives, and to act as a liaison with manufacturing plants and purchasing to ensure proper methods of implementing those designs and to control product cost.

Bachelor's degree
At least 8 years of product design, test and product development experience
At least 5 years of program planning experience
At least 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology-related field preferred.
  • Advanced degree in Business or Technology field desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability in thinking strategically
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving
  • Significant experience in product design and development, especially in a casting environment preferred.
  • Foundry experience preferred.
  • Outstanding leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact positively with internal and external customers.
  • At least 5 years of Leadership role with multiple direct reports

General Manager

Sr. Metallurgical Engineer

Position Description

Manages all aspects of metallurgical activities at TPD.  Conducts metallurgical studies and analyses in support of company product development and quality assurance activities.  Assists with product development projects with metallurgical responsibilities for direction, decisions, validation testing and analyses.

Minimum Qualifications 

·       Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical or Materials Science Engineering.  Master’s degree is a plus.  Must have at least 5 to 7 years relevant work experience in ferrous metallurgy, including ductile iron, steels, and stainless steels, and the metallographic analysis and subsequent interpretation of metals composition.  Thorough knowledge and experience with heat-treating process, and basic knowledge of metal coating.  Must be familiar with various ferrous metal forming industries and related processes such as heat treating.  Also requires familiarity with metrological and analytical equipment and its operation.  Must possess good project management.

·      Proven self-direction and minimum direction of others. 

·      Excellent oral and technical written communication skills and the ability to communicate on all levels. 

·      Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. 

·      Excellent presentation and public speaking skills. 

·      Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines.  

·      Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.   

·          Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint software.  Previous SAP, Minitab, SharePoint knowledge is a plus.
